Bar Council of India



The Bar Council of India, on grounds of reciprocity has allowed the foreign lawyers and law firms to practice law in India.


According to the Bar Council of India Rules for Registration and Regulation of Foreign Lawyers and Foreign Law Firms in India, 2022 these lawyers would be able to practice in non-litigious matters.


Focus areas include: foreign law, international legal issues and arbitration matters.


Bar Council of India is a statutory body under the Advocates Act, of 1961.


It prescribes the standards of professional conduct and etiquette and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar.


It also sets standards for legal education and grants recognition to Universities whose law degree will qualify for enrollment as an advocate.
