Mangroves
Mangroves are a group of trees and shrubs that live in the coastal intertidal zone.
Mangroves absorb large amounts of greenhouse gasses and form key habitats for coastal biodiversity.
Asia has the largest number of mangroves worldwide.
In India, the highest percentage of area under total Mangrove cover is in West Bengal, followed by Gujarat and Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are the largest mangrove forest regions in the world.
