Rhododendron



They are large genus of flowering plants that are found mainly on the Eastern Himalayas, Western Himalayas and Nilgiris.


They are recently in news since they have formed a carpet of themselves in Darjeeling, Sikkim Himalayas.


Some plants of Rhododendron are evergreens while others are deciduous in nature.


They have been designated as the state tree of Uttarakhand. 


They are an indicator species and are facing a high threat due to anthropological pressures and climate change.
